Color that keeps moving
Seaside Mantra does not settle into one view. Deep red and turquoise set the pace; peach, white, and yellow cut across them in drips, marks, and sudden turns. Step back and the 10 × 20-inch composition moves as a whole. Step closer and the little graphic shapes start asking for another look.
A longing for the seaside
I made this while wanting, with my whole heart, to be by the seaside. I threw acrylic paint onto the surface and let that feeling lead. The drips and splatters are part of the action of making it, not a tidy illustration of the coast. That is where the painting gets its movement.
There are forms here that suggest seahorses and octopuses to a patient eye. They are not outlines to decode or a scene to pin down. They are discoveries inside an abstract painting, a reason to slow down and find something different each time.
Find its place
When a room needs energy without a predictable beach theme, let the deep red give it weight and the turquoise bring the light back in. Against a warm neutral wall, the yellow marks jump forward. Beside dark wood, the peach and white keep the piece open and bright. Its vertical shape makes it a strong choice for a narrow stretch of wall or a spot beside a bookshelf.
Carry the palette through the room
When you want to echo the painting's blue-green movement, bring aqua and muted blue into the room. When the space needs warmth, draw from its sandy peach and soft yellow. Use off-white to give those bold marks breathing room, or olive green for an earthy counterpoint. Let a few colors repeat while the painting carries the movement.
